Anticyclonic conditions for most of New Zealand today bring mainly settled weather however cold upper air and warming land temperatures this afternoon could cause unstable conditions for inland areas.

For most of the North Island expect cloudy areas and occasional sun, light winds this morning then afternoon sea breezes. There could be an isolated shower or two about for most places although mainly dry for Taranaki. Isolated showers late afternoon / evening in the ranges behind Hawkes Bay and Gisborne could become heavy with a chance of thunder then easing later on.

Afternoon temperatures in the high teens or low twenties for most of the North Island, Northland will likely get the highest high's.

For the South Island, Canterbury northwards can expect mostly sunny weather with some high cloud, this afternoon cloud builds about inland areas (mainly about the eastern side of the main divide) bringing isolated heavy showers with a chance of thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening. Morning cloud about Southland and Otago may bring a shower then breaking to sunny spells, isolated showers get going in the afternoon a few of which could be heavy with thunderstorms especially about inland eastern Otago then easing this evening. Becoming quite cloudy in the evening for Otago with light showers or drizzle spreading to coastal areas then breaking away overnight.

Winds are light this morning then expect afternoon sea breezes for most, temperatures in the mid to high teens for most, perhaps early twenties for inland Nelson.
