A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a cold southerly change moves onto the lower South Island early this morning however then pushing northwards during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny for Northland and the Bay Of Plenty, elsewhere expect some cloud at times with light west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas, chance of a light shower or two at times otherwise mainly dry. West to northwesterly winds, breezy at times about the coast.
Highs: 14-16

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly winds. Winds could tend northeast right on the coast about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon for a time.
Highs: 18-22

Wellington
Cloudy areas with gusty north to northwesterly winds, strong at times from afternoon.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, north to northwesterly winds, gusty at times in the afternoon for Marlborough.
Highs: 16-20

Canterbury
High cloud with north to northwesterly winds. Southerlies push into South Canterbury during the afternoon bringing rain, moving into North Canterbury in the evening. Snow lowers to 500m overnight about South Canterbury, 800m for North Canterbury.

West Coast
Patchy showers, rain about Fiordland with heavy falls gradually moving northwards reaching North Westland by evening. Breezy north to northeasterly winds, south to southeasterly winds pick up from afternoon about Fiordland.

Southland & Otago
Rain for Southland, clearing in the evening. Snow lowers to 300m in the afternoon. Otago has a dry morning then rain pushes in around midday, easing back in the evening to showers. Snow lowers to 500m about Otago by evening. Cool southerly winds push northwards during the morning.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, light winds tend west to southwest in the afternoon.

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with afternoon easterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud, southerly winds tend northerly after midday.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon. Light winds tend northerly after midday.

An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions to New Zealand today, despite this there will be some areas of cloud and the chance of a shower or two for certain regions.

Upper North Island
Mostly sunny, light winds this morning giving way to afternoon sea breezes. Some cloud builds about Waikato and Bay Of Plenty this afternoon bringing the risk of an isolated shower. Afternoon temperatures reaching into the high teens or perhaps early twenties.

Lower North Island
Mostly sunny for the lower western North Island, Wellington sees early cloud break to a mostly sunny day. Cloud in the east breaks to afternoon sunny spells, there may be a light morning shower or two for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Winds are mostly light tending onshore in the afternoon, afternoon temperatures in the mid to late teens.

Upper South Island
Cloudy areas and occasional sun for the West Coast of the South Island, there may be a light shower or two at times for North Westland during the day also. Winds from the west or southwest. Mostly sunny for Nelson and Marlborough with afternoon north to northwesterly winds. Afternoon high's in the low to mid teens along the West Coast, mid to high teens about Nelson and Marlborough.

Lower South Island
Morning cloud about Canterbury breaks to some sun. Cloud starts to thicken up about South Canterbury from afternoon bringing a few drizzle patches then reaching North Canterbury this evening as easterly quarter winds swing around to the south. Cloudy areas and occasional sun for Southland and Otago, sun more likely in the afternoon for inland areas. High's in the mid teens for Canterbury and Central Otago, low double figures for Southland and coastal Otago.

High pressure dominates New Zealand for the most part today but there are a few showers here and there.

ALL OF NEW ZEALAND:
A mix of sun and cloud with a warm afternoon for many regions. It will be cooler in Southland and Otago with patchy rain or showers in the area. There will also be showers around the eastern North Island, although Sunday should be warmer than Saturday was.

The only other shower risk is really inland for the upper North Island where a few afternoon downpours may also develop.

Winds are light for many with a westerly tilt for some in the eastern North Island a cooler SW tilt in the lower South Island. A southerly develops in Wellington today bringing a cooler afternoon than Saturday - same goes for parts of Wairarapa too.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny although expect some cloud at times Auckland southwards especially from afternoon, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening for southern parts of Auckland, Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty then clearing later in the evening. Winds are light then afternoon sea breezes develop.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, some cloud may build again in the afternoon for inland areas bringing the low risk of an isolated shower otherwise staying dry. Southeasterly winds. Afternoon sea breezes develop for Taranaki.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island
Cloudy for the Wairarapa, cloud spreading further northwards during the morning bringing the chance of a light shower or drizzle patch. Southerly winds swing around to the northeast during the afternoon.

Morning cloud then mostly sunny from afternoon as southeasterly winds tend northeast.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

A front slowly moves northwards over the South Island on Friday, weakening as it pushes northwards. Meanwhile a low moves southeast past the northeastern side of the North Island during the day.

Mostly sunny, there may be some morning cloud of fog (fog for inland areas). Cloud may also hang about Northland during the day bringing the chance of a shower or two, skirting the east coast. Light southerly quarter winds.

A low pressure system brings some rain to Northland today meanwhile about the far south a front moves onto Southland this morning, in between conditions are a little more settled with a ridge of high pressure.

Rain for Northland, the odd heavy fall possible in the east then clearing in the evening, winds from the east. Auckland southwards, a chance of morning low cloud or fog then sunny spells, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening. Light winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, some cloud may persist about Kapiti during the day bringing the risk of a shower or two. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds tend northeast in the afternoon for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington
Cloudy areas, brisk northwesterly winds.

A small low pressure system today develops a little further off the West Coast, moving into the South Island tonight and falling apart. High pressure remains to the north east of NZ and there is a squash zone of air pressure (an area with windy conditions) over the upper South Island/Central NZ/lower North Island.

NORTH ISLAND:
Mostly Sunny in the east, cloudy areas in the western side. Warmer than average for many areas this afternoon, especially in the east. NW winds becoming blustery in exposed parts of the lower North Island. Dry or mostly dry across the island. Cloudy later in the west.
Highs: 14 to 20

SOUTH ISLAND:
Heavy rain slowly moves up the West Coast, not clearing until tomorrow but a mix of sun and cloud in the east. Dry or mainly dry elsewhere although rain develops later in Nelson (mostly likely at night) and some patchy light rain or drizzle may spread across some parts of Southland and Otago (spilling over from the west). A cooler change south of Banks Peninsula, especially in coastal areas of the east.

A mix of sun and cloud with southwesterly winds, chance of a shower in the afternoon about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty otherwise mainly dry.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with light winds tending west to southwest in the afternoon, cloud may be a little more frequent in the afternoon about inland eastern hills / ranges.
Highs: 11-15

Eastern North Island
A fairly cloudy day for Gisborne with morning showers then clearing, sunny spells elsewhere with showers developing about inland hills and ranges in the afternoon. Some of these showers may become heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing in the evening. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.

Strong cold southwesterlies over the South Island spread over the North Island today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be heavy with hail for a time in the afternoon as westerlies tend brisk to strong southwest. Showers ease evening.
Highs: 13-14

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain and snow to 500m eases to showers around midday as gusty southerlies ease then tend westerly. Some sun may break through at times from afternoon.
Highs: 6-13

Eastern North Island
Rain about Wairarapa pushes into Hawkes Bay / Gisborne around midday with a cold southwest change, clearing by evening. Snow about the ranges of Wairarapa to 500m, 800m further north. Sunny areas before rain moves in.

Wellington
Morning rain and snow to 500m clears, sunny areas increase from afternoon with cold southerlies dying away.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson
Early rain and snow to 500m clears then becoming sunny around midday with southwesterlies dying out.

A low pressure system east of New Zealand today brings a cold southerly airflow for the South Island, milder westerlies further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy skies, the odd shower about also. The shower risk increases after midday and there may be the odd heavy fall in the evening. West to northwesterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional showers with west to northwesterly winds, there may be some rain for a time late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, there may be a spot of rain in the evening. Northwesterly winds.

Wellington

The weak low near the upper North Island moves away today while in the South Island the start of a wintry week of weather in the lower half of the island starts later today as a cold front arrives.

NORTH ISLAND:
Low pressure to the north east drifts away today taking showers and cloud with it. Mainly dry with light winds but showers may linger around East Cape and Gisborne but will also clear away. Northerlies pick up in Wellington and becoming cloudier.
Highs: 14 to 20

SOUTH ISLAND:
Mild and dry to begin with, clouds increasing in the south with rain arriving in Southland, Otago and Fiordland today, then into south Canterbury tonight. It's followed by a much colder south to south west change. Dry and mostly sunny in the north of the island. Warmer than average for most places before the cold change.
Highs: 13 to 22

A ridge brings settled weather to the South Island today while a southeasterly airflow lies over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any morning showers clear then some sun breaks through, from midday isolated showers develop with the chance of a heavy fall Auckland northwards then clearing in the evening. Winds mostly from the southeast however a south to southwest sea breeze clashes in the west with the southeasterly from western Waikato up through to western Northland.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning high cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas with westerly winds, chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry. In the evening a southwest change moves through bringing more a period of more persistent period of showers. Showers may become heavy for a time overnight then easing before dawn on Saturday as southeasterlies freshen.

Mostly cloudy, northwesterlies change southerly late afternoon bringing a few showers. Showers may be heavy about Taranaki then clearing overnight.
